Aveiro Overview
Aveiro is a city on the west coast of Portugal. It is known for its canals navigated by colorful boats (Barcos moliceiros), traditionally used to harvest seaweed. Doubt they even existed in the 19th century. It seems like an 18th or at least 19th-century picture, complete with abstracted forms and paintings despite their name.
History
Today, Aveiro harbor is one of Portugal’s most convenient and safe ports. It also offers friendly residents, exciting history, and city life. The Celtic toponym ‘’Averius’’ derived from the Latinised toponym ‘’Averius’’, the Latinised form of the Celtic toponym ‘’Averius’’.
Currently, only limited quantities of salt are produced in the Portuguese territory. Because of a series of problems related to environmental pollution, the extraction and sale of salt are heavily restricted in Portugal. It was the center of the salt trade through the Middle Ages and a trade center since 26 January 959 (from the testament of Countess Mumadona Dias to the cenóbio of Guimarães). During this testament, Mumadona Dias also highlighted the ancient name for Aveiro, referring to a monastery’s lands in Alauario et Salinas (“a gathering place or preserve of birds and great salt”). From the 11th century onwards, Aveiro became popular with Portuguese royalty.

Today, the annual event is a masterpiece of exposition and art. This year in March 2018, the fair administration decided to expand it from 1 kilometer to 4 kilometers in width due to large-scale public interest in it contributing positively towards mass tourism.
Princess St. Joana, daughter of Afonso V, was born in Avesio, Portugal, on 5 March 1459 and entered the convent in Aveiro at 12. She lived her life centered around obeying the rule she had been born to abide by. St Joana has been a significant occasion for Aveiro since her death at age 81.
The first charter of Spain, issued in Lisbon on 4 August 1515, really happened in Madrid, and King Manuel I of Portugal signed the document on behalf of his son John II. Geography
With the economy booming, Aveiro is the largest port in Portugal.
The seat of municipality is the city of Aveiro, comprising five urban parishes with about 73,003 inhabitants. The city is also the capital of the District of Aveiro and the largest city in the Baixo Vouga inter-municipal community.
Despite its reputation as an illusionist city, Aveiro is more closely related to the Spanish town of Tarragona, by which it shares its genealogy. It is also famous for being the home of the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa.
Climate
“Aveiro is known for its warmth and Mediterranean climate, and it is also a home to many well-known ex-pats.” The maritime influence causes moderate summers averaging around 28 °C (82 °F) in daytime temperatures, which are more pleasant than most coastal areas of mainland Spain. Coastal Mediterranean climates feature dry summers and wet winters. Frosts are rare and never severe. The hottest temperature recorded was 39.3 °C (102.7 °F). Temperatures above 32 °C (90 °F) are only occasional.

The Os Galitos Club was founded in 1904 and is one of the oldest rowing clubs in Portugal. They have represented Portugal in international competitions, including the Olympic Games.
