Ancona is a humid subtropical city with a Köppen climate classification of Cfa, and it is located between the Mediterranean and more continental regions. The church of Santa Maria della Piazza stands on the foundations of two churches, one of which dates back to the 6th century. Besides the intricately carved portal, the lower part of the façade is beautifully adorned with small arches made of Dalmatian marble.
The old fishing port with caves carved into the rock cliff in the early 1900s is an attractive beach feature (in the summer, you can take the elevator instead of descending the stairs). On a clear day, one can see the Croatian coast from the top, in front of the monument.
