Approximately 3500–2500 BC are the dates of the old settlement remains (middle-new Neolithic). There are carved stone and flint tools on Seriol Hill and the Manresà area, along with tombs with grave goods in the Sistrells and Llefià quarters. Many old brickyards (dated 1800–1500 BC) and the Masies of Can Butinyà and Can Mora in the Canyet quarter (1500–1100 BC) have been found with Bronze and Iron Age deposits.

In the pre-Roman period, Badalona’s territory was inhabited by Iberians who settled on the Boscà hill (198 meters above sea level), from where it is possible to view the coastline. By the 1st century A.D., the settlement was abandoned entirely due to Romanization, which dates to at least the 4th century B.C. Despite the Iberians’ presence, the city’s origins usually date back to around 100 BC when the Romans founded a town on Rosés hill (26.8 meters) next to the coast ex novo. The Roman town’s plan followed their common cardo and decumanus designs, occupying some 10 hectares and surrounded by walls. During Augustus’ reign, the Roman city was very dynamic, with specialized vineyard agriculture that produced wine for export across the empire. Almost depopulated by the 3rd century, the town began to decline, and people fled to rustic villas. There are. However, a few remains from Late Antiquity that shows Baetulo was never abandoned.

The current Badalona was formed in the 10th century over the old Roman city and around the old forum, and the temple was converted into a church. In the meantime, a rural nucleus developed outside the town’s walls. It would take until the mid-18th century for this rural-urban divide to disappear.

In the 14th century, the Catholic Monarchs would spend their summers at Sant Jeroni de la Murtra Monastery. According to some authors, this is also where they received Christopher Columbus after his first voyage to the Americas.
