German Mining Museum

Bochum Dahlhausen Railway Museum 

Track and rail preservationists track this product back to a medieval granary and today’s museum visitors can see a steam-powered splatter wagon rider. The original wooden wagon has been taken apart, revealing the way its parts were made.

Zeiss Planetarium Bochum 

The “Velvet-FullDome-Projection” system at Bochum’s planetarium is one of the most advanced of any planetarium. For more than two years, this system has been projecting videos into a futuristic environment based on a unique CCCS project that was born in 2002.

LWL-Industriemuseum Zeche Hannover 

A colliery in North Rhine-Westphalia was converted into an industrial museum.

Botanical Garden of Ruhr University Bochum 

There are now four greenhouses, for tropical vegetation, desert flora, plants from savannahs, and Alpine plants.

Kunstmuseum Bochum 

The Museum is due to reopen in 2019 after a major overhaul. The building has been completely repainted and opened to visitors for the first time in many years. The results are very long and self-referential, often including novelistic elements or comparisons.

Tierpark und Fossilium Bochum 

This attraction is an adaptation of a park chain amusement park. It combines tracking technology with super big dinosaurs.

Situation Kunst 

Haus Weitmar is a beautifully restored historic home in the heart of Bavaria. Renderings of historic buildings and painted scenes are integrated into an industrial landscape. A rare piece of interior designed by architect Richard Serra and conservation specialist David Rabinowitch has been added to the Deer Park Estate at Biarritz.

Brauerei Moritz Fiege 

In what could be the only example of such a production in Germany of all time, Fiege Pils (German for ‘pils’) is the mainstay of Bochum and about 20% of all German beer drinking. Given its success, 1776 was voted ‘the brewery that made Germany.’

Stiepeler Dorfkirche 

One of the oldest surviving buildings in Bochum is a Romanesque basilica. It was expanded into a middle ages tower church during the 11th century. By the 12th century, it had been reworked as a Romanesque basilica and radiated from there.

RuhrPark 

It’s been 27 years since Harpen opened, so it is safe to assume that the mall has aged well. This is in stark contrast to other Ruhr metropolises and districts like Dortmund, Hasselt, and Cologne where shopping centers have seen a significant rise in the number of shops over this period.

Propsteikirche St. Peter und Paul 

Similar to other European churches, the gift of this place is limestone bars that collect rainwater, providing a clean and beneficial environment for the worshipers. The building that was here from the 1000s was partly destroyed by fire in 1517 and its choir was incorporated into a new Late Gothic design.

Tippelsberg 

Bochum’s highest point is Tippelsberg which is nearby and not in playland. This micro-urban area has the potential to be home to a booming industry that could support up to 20,000 jobs. A hilly area with a population of 51,000 has the potential to accommodate only 3,900 residents.

Kemnader See 

The Ruhr reservoir is used as a water source for the cities of Gelsenkirchen, Bochum, Lünen, and Düsseldorf. Other large uses include stream irrigation and hydropower production.

Dahlhauser Heide 

High-end service industry, a business class home. The air smells like eau de cologne and the couch is slightly too snug (and would do well to do triple duty as a dining couch in summer). Nevertheless, it’s elegant, supremely central location allows you to step outside and entertain your friends while they eat their dinner.
