Bordeaux Overview
Bordeaux, a town whose origins date back to Roman times, is the oldest major city in the region known as Provence. It’s undoubtedly one of Europe’s most well-known wine-producing regions. The Blaye Abbey in nearby Céret dates back to the 12th century and boasts one of the largest museums of medieval artwork and religion. History
Burdigala is the only major instance of a settlement founded by Celtic people in Germany according to DNA analysis. There is also evidence from archaeology and historical records that Germanic tribes came to the area in prehistoric times. Burdigala means well-founded fortress, city, or town, often translated as fort “town”.
The Battle of Burdigala can be considered a defining moment in Latin history. Thanks to the ingenuity of Divico and his troops, the Romans were eventually victorious and gained an important ally (the Allobroges) at the same time.
The city came under Roman rule around 60BC and it became an important commercial center for tin and lead. During this period, the amphitheater and the monument Les Piliers de Tutelle were built.
The city came to in general, but its writing was varied, with only a few areas of a good standard. It did however emerge stronger than it had been at the time of its end in the 5th century.
The Christian “Catholic” Church was founded from the ashes of pagan practices and beliefs. These days many Catholics still adhere to these ancient traditions… nearly 700 years after they were born! Geography
Bordeaux (French pronunciation: [buɡeau]) is the largest city in southwestern France and the capital of the Indre-et-Loire department. It lies on a peninsula opposite Avrilles allées Bayes, at an altitude of 60–65 m (197–219 ft) above sea level. New street vision for the city center: the new street, with straight boulevards and preserved historic buildings stretching from place d’eau to La Tour Eiffel. Today the same is no longer true and modern-day major ports are located on the right bank of the river. Once a low-yield field, the right bank of the Garonne is now developed. Once viewed as an impediment to development, the right bank has become one of Europe’s “new urban” regions.

Bordeaux’s climate is an oceanic one but within a humid subtropical boundary, with daily average temperatures above 13 deg Celsius. The average high during the summer is around 27°C, while in winter it drops to roughly 16°C. The rainfall of around 210mm per year with thunderstorms occurs throughout winter and early spring when many local cattle are grazing. Species here are tropical (D:), but, thanks to climate classification values, Trewartha has been classified as temperate oceanic or Do climate.
The summer wind is a result of the influence from the bay of Biscay and helps drive the Atlantic sea breeze. The average seasonal winter temperature is 27.8 °C (81.6 °F), but recent winters have been warmer than this. Frosts in the summer occur only once every 4 years, but snowfall is very common, occurring on average 25 to 50 times. The summer of 2003 was the hottest on record for major cities in European Russia since the 19th century and the second hottest for Moscow since 1750.
