Aguila-Cacém is the capital of the Portuguese municipality of Sintra and has a municipality population of 81,845 inhabitants.
History
The name Agualva-Cacém has a long and rich history, from at least the fifteenth century. On 12 July 2001, it was divided into four civil parishes to reflect its historical importance.
The toponym “Cacém” is derived from the Arabic Qāsim (طرسي), meaning “the one who distributes.”

Agualva-Cacém is divided into four civil parishes, subdivisions of an already large area filled with residential areas.

The Estação Ferroviária de Agualva-Cacém (Amazônia Railroad Station) was inaugurated on 28 October 2013 and opened to service on 2 May 2014. The project received the “Constructing Vocabulary” award from the Improvement Progress Fund and World Heritage in Lisbon.
