With a population of 131,317 as of 2015, Dos Hermanas is a Spanish city 15 kilometers south of Seville in Andalusia.
History
A city named Elvira and Estefana Nazareno, the two sisters of Gonzalo Nazareno, one of the king’s principal military commanders, was founded in 1248 by King Ferdinand III of Castile. The city’s name means “two sisters.” Nazareno/a is the name given to the natives of Dos Hermanas for this reason.
Dos Hermanas is mentioned as where Don Juan Tenorio manages to intervene in the marriage of two plebeians, Arminta and Batricio, who he cleverly deceives, in Tirso de Molina’s play The Trickster of Seville and the Stone Guest (1612-1620). It is based on the play The Trickster of Seville and The Stone Guest that the myth of “Don Juan” is based on.

Today, the city’s main economic activities include the production and distribution of olive oil and “Spanish olives,” as well as numerous service industries.
