Send Gift Baskets to Dundalk, Ireland

The Rockmarshall archaeology team has identified several significant prehistoric sites around the Dundalk area. These include “Cairnfield” (now known as Wardlow), the site known as “Cairndale” and the Neolithic camp of Stebbins Camp, now known as Gibbenmoor. Here, a human visitor is immediately attracted by the stone gate – it may not have been designed with modern guidance systems in mind, but if they worked equally well it would have looked just as attractive, despite its unpolished exterior. The internal building was built from around 1900 BC to about 1800 BC. Other pre-Christian archaeological sites in the Dundalk Municipal District are Rockmarshall Court Tomb, a court cairn, and Aghnaskeagh Cairns, a chambered cairn and portal tomb.

Celtic mythological creatures (tribes) are preserved in illustrations of c.200-350 AD decayed stone carvings from Ireland, Scotland, and Wales that are associated with the myth of Cú Chulainn, consisting of sculpted heads of man and cattle in relief on wall carving. The full list of deities depicted varies with the carving location. Clochafarmore, is the resting place of our fearless defender of the seas.

In this battle, Storno, king of Lochlin, was slain and Cormac; the high king of Ireland with Aire (also called Finan) his favorite acted as second in command. It is not clear whether Cormac’s sword was brandished by him at the time of this incident or later.

The emergence of mass settlements and large-scale coin hoardings in north Louth, where six separate stone brooches are now attributed to the 9th century. The discovery of a type of pottery – souvenir ware – that was only discovered in Northern Ireland indicates the number and range of sites that were regularly raided. These sources also represent the Irish language and by studying them we can better understand the evolution of Irish in Western Europe as a whole.

Saint Brigid is reputed to have been born in 451 AD in Tullabeg, and author of the Celtic devotional book “Brighid a Fleadh Smert”. A shrine to her is located at Faughart. St Brigid’s Church, Kilcurry holds what worshippers believe is a relic of the saint–a fragment of her skull which was brought to the church in 1905 by Sister Mary Agnes of the Dundalk Convent of Mercy.
