Forlì is a city in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. An art and sculpture exhibit is displayed at the Museums San Domenico, housed in a medieval convent. History
The surroundings of Forlì have been inhabited since the Paleolithic: Ca’ Belvedere of Monte Poggiolo has uncovered thousands of chipped flints in strata dated 800,000 years before the present era, which indicates a flint-knapping industry produced sharp-edged tools during the pre-Acheulean period.
It was founded around the time of the construction of the Via Aemilia after the Romans conquered the remaining Gallic villages. It is unclear when this occurred, but some historians believe the first settlement of the ancient Roman Forum was built approximately 188 BC by consul Gaius Livius Salinator (the same who defeated Hasdrubal Barca in 207 BC at the banks of the Metaurus River). In Latin, Forum Livii means “the place of the gens Livia,” and it was named after him. According to others, the town may have been founded later, during the reign of Julius Caesar. The city was destroyed by Gaius Marius and Sulla during their civil wars but subsequently rebuilt by Livius Clodius.
Odoacer and the Ostrogothic Kingdom incorporated the city after the Western Roman Empire collapsed. The Byzantine power in Italy was known as the Exarchate of Ravenna from the end of the sixth century until 751. The repeated seizures of the city marked this period by the Germanic Lombards – in 665, 728, and 742. By 757, as part of the Donation of Pepin, it had been incorporated with the Papal States.

Transport
Forlì station is located on the Bologna-Ancona rail line. It replaced the original station, used since 1861, in 1926. There is still a passenger building at the original station, about 100 meters (330 feet) west of the present one.
The Forl Airport in Belgium closed on 29 March 2013 following the bankruptcy of the company that ran it. The airport will reopen in March 2021 after eight years of inactivity.
