Hagen is the 41st-largest city in Germany. They are found in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, located on the southeastern edge of the Ruhr area, 15 km south of Dortmund, where the rivers Lenne and Volme meet the river, Ruhr.
Hagen has been mentioned around 1200 years, but it is uncertain where the name originated and was later adopted. Eventually, he passed to the County of Mark after victory in 1324. In 1614 it was awarded to the Margraviate of Brandenburg, and in 1701 it became part of the Kingdom of Prussia.
In 1807, Prussia was defeated in the Fourth Coalition war and had to cede many of its lands. One of these was Hagen. In 1815, it became part of the newly forming Prussian Province Westphalia

Thousands of workers went on strike during the Ruhr Uprising in 1920. They fought the government and paramilitary forces during their struggle, but the uprising had to be suppressed through force and killing an estimated 1,000 workers.
In 1928, the population of Hagen City reached over 100,000 people.
During World War II, Hagen was bombarded with heavy airstrikes. It first came under attack on the night of 1 October 1943 when 243 Lancasters appeared in the sky, but then again a few nights later when 8 Mosquitoes from Bomber Command attacked. In the “Bomber Command Campaign Diary”, it was recorded that this raid was a complete success achieved on a completely cloud-covered target of small size, with only a moderate bomber effort and at trifling cost. Hagen sustained severe damage from that.
After the Second World War, the city was included in the new state of North Rhine-Westphalia in West Germany.
On August 2021, a cache of artifacts was found inside the home of a history teacher. These artifacts were related to the Nazi Party and included a portrait of Hitler, medals adorned with eagles and swastikas, a newspaper from 1945, and more. It has been found out that the house once served as the headquarters of the Nationalsozialistische Volkswohlfahrt, which was an organization of Nazis.
