Brüder-Grimm-Nationaldenkmal

In 1896, a bronze statue of the Brothers Grimm was erected here before the Neustädter Rathaus. The monument was unveiled after 40 years of struggle to erect a memorial to Hanau’s most famous sons.

Wilhelmsbad

In 1709, two women discovered a spring northwest of Hanau with curative properties. The site was later turned into a stately park and spa complex by William I, Elector of Hesse.

Historisches Karussell Wilhelmsbad

As part of Wilhelmsbad’s landscaping, William I commissioned Franz Ludwig von Cancrin to create something unprecedented: A revolving carousel at the summit of an artificial hill.

Schloss Philippsruhe

Philipp Reinhard, Count of Hanau-Münzenberg, commissioned this princely Baroque palace on the Main at the beginning of the 18th century—the Wilhelmine interiors date from the 1870s, when Prince Frederick William reworked them.

Historisches Museum Hanau

Located on the lower floor of Schloss Philippsruhe, this museum focuses on Hanau’s history. An old 1665 map shows how the city once looked, and you can browse uniforms, badges, medals, original documents, paintings, posters, and everyday items.

Schlosspark Philippsruhe

Founded at the end of the 17th century, the garden west of Schloss Philippsruhe is even older than the palace.

Marienkirche

The Gothic church behind Hanau’s old town hall dates centuries before the grid-like Neustadt to the south. As a 13th-century Romanesque chapel, the Marienkirche was furnished with a Late Gothic nave and choir in the last decades of the 15th century.

Steinheim Old Town

Steinheim lies on the Deutsche Fachwerkstraße, a tour route for half-timbered houses along the opposite Main bank.

Hessisches Puppenmuseum

The doll and toy museum opened in 1983 in the arcaded pavilion of Wilhelmsbad spa. Gertrud Rodemann, a resident, collected the dolls that became the Puppenmuseum.

Deutsches Goldschmiedehaus

The old town hall of Hanau, built in the Renaissance style, is now a museum. Like the rest of the senior center, a lovely gabled and half-timbered monument was damaged during the war but was restored to its former glory by 1958.
