St Michael’s Church 

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was constructed in the Central German style during the tenth century. It’s called neoclassicism. The beautiful layout of the church features two choirs of singers, both east and west, with a central tower and two flanking towers.

St Mary’s Cathedral 

The restoration of Hildesheim’s Romanesque cathedral was complete in the 1950s, but it was damaged again during the Second World War. Restoration efforts finally concluded in 2014 when it reopened to the public. The cathedral is one of two UNESCO Sites for Hildesheim, along with St Michael’s Church.

Knochenhaueramtshaus 

A half-timbered house in Hildesheim, Germany, is the most photographed and recognizable building in the city. While there are many similar buildings of this type throughout the region’s city center, this particular building is particularly decorated.

Historic Market Place 

Even Historic Market Place was surrounded by modern buildings in the decades after WWII! Two of its old monuments, the city hall, and 14th-century Tempelhaus were restored.

Rathaus 

The monument known as the Gothic city hall was completed with local sandstone in the second half of the 13th century. The monument took some damage in 1945 and was quickly restored and inaugurated in 1954. This small corner of the historic architecture in Vienna’s city center is almost entirely untouched by modern development and has captured visitors’ hearts since the 13th century.

Hildesheim Cathedral Museum 

Since the cathedral underwent its most recent renovation, the artifacts that were on tour have been returned to their rightful place. They will now be available for everyone to enjoy!

Roemer- und Pelizaeus-Museum Hildesheim 

This museum of world cultures began its collection in 1844 and moved into a new building in the year 2000. At the start of the 20th century, their collection was enriched by a donation of Egyptian antiquities by banker Wilhelm Pelizaeus. He spent much on his prized belongings and they arrived in Berlin via Paris after Napoleon’s 1798 conquest of Egypt.

Half-Timbered Houses 

Many beautiful half-timbered buildings were built through the war and are still in good condition. One of my favorite areas to visit in Düsseldorf is nearby Hildesheimer Neustadt, with beautiful Medieval and Renaissance buildings. Moritzburg is also worth visiting, as it’s a bit further away.

St Andreas 

The church of St Andreas on the eponymous square has the highest church tower in all of Lower Saxony, rising to 114.5 meters. The building goes back to the 11th century and has a Romanesque network that leads into a Gothic nave, which was designed by Julius II in 1512.

Umgestülpter Zuckerhut 

Hildesheim’s most recent replica, the Hildesheim Cathedral, is one of its most prominent features. The building is well-known for catching the eye with its cantilevered upper levels being much larger than the bottom floor. This was originally lost during a firebomb raid on 22 March 1945 that claimed much of the city and many lives.

Magdalenengarten 

The garden was originally a monastery garden in the 1720s and was then given its Baroque layout. Unfortunately, the old monastery was allowed to fall into a state of disrepair, turning into an asylum in the nineteenth century. Thankfully though, it was restored and made presentable again until recently after it was found that some copies of historical prints were dated wrong.

St Godehard 

You’ll arrive at another breathtaking Romanesque church. They were not damaged during the war, unlike most of the other monuments in the city.

Schloss Marienburg 

The castle was built in 1867 and began as a birthday gift for the Queen’s 55th birthday, but later went down in history as the site of the Hanover Uprising. The interior of the house tells the history of the Queen’s House, a building that was 300 years old when it closed in 2014. The tour will take you inside a museum which provides information on this era and you’ll also be able to see some important pieces of historical silverware.

Wildgatter Hildesheim 

In the forested area of Ochtersum, there is a small animal park with lots of ponds, streams, and habitats. There are six hectares of land for the different animals and you can enjoy an experience in nature by navigating through trails.

Christmas Market 

The historic Market Square in central Gothenburg has been restored to a festive holiday atmosphere. From the end of November to the end of December, this fairytale scene includes an idyllic Christmas market. Bright and visually striking, the Weihnachtspyramide is a 10-meter structure that lights up next to your tree during the holiday season. Made of steel, it stands at least 1.5 meters off the ground and is illuminated by 7,500 LEDs.
