Stand on Deutsches Eck: The German Corner 

The German Corner is a long headland that slopes out from the city of Koblenz between the Rhine and Mosel rivers. It’s been important as a meeting place for two mighty rivers since 1216 and it’s an ideal setting for a shot from a movie or selfie.

Visit the Fortress of Ehrenbreitstein 

Perched 118 meters above Koblenz on the east bank of the Rhine, the Fortress of Ehrenbreitstein was built between 1817 and 1828. The fortress was constructed on the ruins of a previous fort that was destroyed by France. You can now get up close and personal to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Koblenz by getting on the cable car. They have the longest one in Germany, with great views over the town and both rivers.

Ride the Koblenz Cable Car 

This tour takes visitors to a site of interest in the city, providing them with views and incredible adrenaline rushes during their journey. One of the newer tourist attractions in the city, it allows tourists to get dizzying views while ascending quickly. Established in 2010, your cable car adventure starts on the banks of the Rhine River and travels at a comfortable pace for 890 meters to arrive at a fortress. Suspended high above the river, there is plenty of time to take great photos and selfies from the breathtaking views. Head over to the “German Corner” where you can see historic buildings such as the Rhine.

Take a Nostalgic Rhine Cruise aboard RMS Goethe 

A steam whistle is a type of train horn traditionally used on locomotives but also in other contexts. The luxurious cruise originated in September 1977 and was initially used by the German Navy. It was retired from service many months ago but is still bound for its first port of call twice a day. A historic paddle wheeler that has been sailing since 1913 along the Rhine River.

Get Artsy at Forum Confluentes 

Koblenz is home to the Forum Confluentes. It was specifically constructed at the heart of the city’s central square and houses several important cultural attractions. Wiesbaden’s striking design pays a nod to its Germanness and affinity for the Rhine. This modern structure juxtaposes three different experiences without compromising good design at its most basic level.

Explore the Historic Old Castle (Alte Burg) 

On the banks of the Mosel River in Koblenz stands the Old Castle (Alte Burg) that once served as a belfry and watchtower to keep people under control. It was built in 1137 by the Elector of Trier and served as an observation tower overlooking the town below. The spiffy new building that has been built keeps a Roman-era vicinity, on top of both the original structure. It also houses the mothership for all important documents in the city and hosts a wide selection of books on any given subject.

Take a Drive to Stolzenfels Castle 

Found in Koblenz, Rittersturz has an easy bus ride from many parts of the city and a romantic castle stands tall at 154 m above the Rhine. The Schloss was built in 1259 as a toll house to collect taxes on the Rhein River. It was expanded around 1800 when it acquired its Gothic Revival features, and it is currently the summer residence of the King of Prussia.

Tour the Basilica of St. Castor 

Founded in AD 836, the Basilica of St. Castor is where the treaty that divided the Carolingian Empire was signed in 843. Much of the church seen today was constructed after AD 700. Excavations indicate that it was used by the Romans and Christians from early on in its history.

Wander the Rhine Gardens: Kaiserin-Augusta-Anlagen 

The lovely Rhine Gardens (Rheinanlagen), a 3.5km stretch of promenade and walkways connecting the green spaces on the east bank of the Rhine, extend from The Electoral Palace to Oberwerth Island. The Pfaffendorf Bridge, the historic Weindorf, and the Rhein-Mosel-Halle convention center are highlights of a pleasant walking tour in this area.

Explore Old Town Koblenz 

After WWII, the city was in disarray. It took decades for it to be restored and brought back to its state before the war. These efforts served as inspiration for similar restorations across Europe. Highlights of a walking tour in the area include the Town Hall (Rathaus), built between 1695 and 1700. The humorous Schängelbrunnen standing in front of which is a monument designed in 1940 by Carl Burger and dedicated to poet Josef Cornelius, who wrote the lyrics for Schängelstädter’s hymn.

The Church of Our Lady 

The Romanesque Church of Our Lady is often called the ‘Lady of the Night due to a painting inside this church. There is evidence that suggests this church has been here for quite a while – dating back to the 5th century, though buildings on this site are from the 12th-century and 15th-century additions.

The Electoral Palace 

Clemens Wenzel was the last Elector of Trier, and he finished building this Neoclassical Electoral Palace in 1786. It’s located close to the banks of the Rhine. The Villa’s design combines its residential and life views. The windows offer a spectacular view of the surrounding area, while still providing relaxation and comfort.

Take the Kids to the DB Museum, Koblenz 

Whether you’re a rail enthusiast or an adult traveling with kids, the DB Museum in Koblenz offers a fascinating look at the region’s history with its collection of trains. Although the DB Museum of Transport in Nuremberg is a part of this larger museum, expect to spend at least a few hours there exploring. It’s a significant branch too so you’re not going anywhere quickly!
