Krsko Overview
The town of Krško is located in Slovenia, and it acts as the center for the City municipality of Krško and is situated on the Sava River. The traditional regions of Styria and Lower Carniola encompass the area around Krško. The entire municipality was part of Yugoslavia until 1991 when it became part of Slovenia.
Name
The settlement’s name was changed from Krško to Videm–Krško in 1953. Krško’s reputation was restored in 1964, known by the old German name Gurkfeld and its current Slovenian moniker.
History
Archaeological evidence from the Sava river valley tells us that the area was inhabited as early as prehistoric times. Several Bronze and Iron Age sites, as well as Roman, find, also show continuous occupation preservation. After the Medieval era, the area became a Habsburg possession and was affected by Ottoman raids from the 15th to 17th centuries.
Krško is the site of a mass grave that has been seen to be associated with the Second World War. The Bunker Mass Grave is located on the steep right bank of the Sava River, opposite corporate headquarters. It’s about 50 meters north of house number 4 on Bohoričeva Street and 100 meters south of a school playground. According to statements from the Krško police, it is believed that more than 100 civilians, mostly Croatians, were murdered in an abandoned bunker, and the bunker was then dynamited. The location has been identified, and we need to investigate it.

Climate
Krško’s climate is characterized by having warm summers and cold winters, with the temperature fluctuating between 25°F and 81°F annually. The hottest days are usually around 90°F, while the coldest winter nights can drop below 11°F. Krško is much more enjoyable during summer. The best time to visit for warm-weather activities is mid-June to early September.
Main sights
The Krško parish church in the downtown area is dedicated to John the Evangelist and is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Novo Mesto. It’s an original construction from the 15th century that was significantly reconstructed in 1899. There is another parish in the town, Videm-Krško Parish, located in the southern part. Its church is dedicated to Saint Rupert and was built from 1893 – 1897. The church in the hamlet of Stara Vas (German: Altendorf) has been here since 1319 and has flower gardens and a café. It was built in 1768 to replace an older structure. The church on the right bank of the Sava is dedicated to the Holy Spirit and was built in 1777 according to plans by Austrian architect Johann Nepomuk Fuchs.
The Capuchin monastery’s church is in the center of town on the right bank of the Sava. It was built from 1640 to 1644, then altered at various stages in its history.

Construction, metalworking, and paper production are some of the industries established in Krško. Additionally, some agricultural businesses are based here for trade and transportation purposes. Tourism is also a fast-growing industry, especially when it comes to nearby natural beauty attractions.
