The earliest mentions of this settlement go back to the Roman era and refer to it as a way station named ‘Mansio Longatico.’ The region has always been a thoroughfare for trade routes, not only because of its proximity to the interior areas but also because it is situated on the coast. Three mass graves have been found in Logatec, Slovenia. One is the Šemon Shaft Mass Grave, located on the southern slope of Strmica Hill. Two pine trees mark it. The remains of civilians from the nearby village of Rovte were murdered in May or June 1945 and buried here. The Košovec Shaft Mass Grave (Grobišče Brezno na Košovcu) is a 148ft deep hole in the middle of the woods. Located about 1.2 miles south of Logatec, it is 45 meters deep. The pit has been examined and contains human remains, German I.D tags, prostheses, ammunition, and military and civilian footwear fragments. The Gradišnica Cave Mass Grave (Grobišče Jama Gradišnica) lies south of Logatec. It contains the remains of two to five unknown victims.
