Seepark Lünen

The Seepark’s green theater is built on the Horstmarer Loch, a 12-meter depression caused by mining activities.

Schloss Schwansbell

This palace dates back to the end of the 10th century and is located across the Datteln-Hamm Canal from the Seepark. Lords of Schwansbell owned the moated castle that used to stand here for 700 years.

Museum der Stadt Lünen

Since 1982, Lünen’s city museum has been housed in Schloss Schwansbell’s “Gesindehaus.” Between 1840 and 1930, five decorated rooms showcase different aspects of city life.

Evangelische Stadtkirche Lünen

Built in the 1360s and rebuilt in the 1510s in Late Gothic style, this is Lünen’s main protestant church.

On the Industrial Heritage Trail, you can visit the pre-planned Neue Zechenkolonie (New Mining Colony) for the Zeche Minister Achenbach colliery.

In Lünen’s city center, a handful remain after many historic buildings were demolished for urban redevelopment in the 1960s.

St. Marien

Lünen’s main Roman Catholic church was built between 1894 and 1896 in a Neo-Gothic style. On the north bank of the Lippe River, the first church was Romanesque, then Gothic in the late Middle Ages.

Cappenberger See

Lünen has another idyllic recreation area for boating and fishing on sunny summer days. When the clay was excavated for the Prussia–Münster railway line, a pit filled with water and formed the lake.
