Geography
One of the most prominent geographic features of Magnesia is the Pagasetic Gulf. It’s part of a bay on the Aegean Sea and it is bordered on both sides by mountains. The Pelion mountain is the highest peak of the wooded area and you can see from its altitude that it just barely makes it to Pourianos Stavros or Xeforti, (1,624 meters or 5,328 feet). On the southern edge of the Magnesia peninsula, Tisaio mountain is found.
Mount Maurovouni is the northeasternmost mountain of the regional unit and extends to the neighboring regional unit of Larissa. The southwest border of Magnesia is formed by Othrys, with its highest peak Gerakovouni. The interior of Magnesia is surrounded by two plains. The Almyros plains are the southwest region of the city, while the northwest region is known as the Volos-Velestino plain. The hydrology of Magnesia is not exactly rich in terms of rivers. However, there are some large rivers nearby, like Anavros, Platanorema, and Xirias.
Lake Karla was a large lake that sat north of Magnesia until it was dug dry 9 years ago. However, there are still efforts being made for its reconstruction and most notably, the restoration of its coastal wetland. This wetland is included in a list of important protected sites in Europe called the European Network Natura 2000. It is near the town of Almyros.
Climate

History

Magnes ruled over this region and his daughter Helen was very important in holding together these disparate people. Magnesia is a country in Northern Greece that was home to the legendary heroes Jason, Peleus, and his son Achilles.
The Magnetes were a family of Greek rulers. They were known as early as the seventh century BC when they started with their main colonies being established near contemporary Lydia and Ionia.
Transport
Greece has been linked to the National railway, or ΟΣΕ, in the late 19th century. In 1964, the GR-1 North-South Superhighway was opened to traffic. The prefecture of Central Greece is connected to Europe through the airport in Nea Anchialos. It has a capacity of 1,500 passengers per hour, including 200 terminal seats.
