Berengar’s reign saw Monza achieve some degree of independence: the city had its weights and measures, could seize property, and sign deeds. By donating numerous works to the Monza Cathedral, including the famous cross, and giving enormous benefits to its 32 canons and other churches, Berengar showed his generosity.
