The Paleolithic era marks the beginning of human history. There are flint gravel and arrow tips found at sites that prove this.

It is possible to find traces of Roman civilization in the current municipality, specifically from the late period. The majority of them consist of ceramics.

In the Iberian Peninsula, no indication exists that a town existed in the current Móstoles during the Islamic rule era. There are, however, some remains of this era on the territory.

In the chronicles compiling the villages seized in the conquest, it was not mentioned as being founded after the Christian conquest of the Kingdom of Toledo (1085). From its foundation to the late-15th century, there are only a few written references to the village in the Middle Ages. Toledo became part of the Land of Toledo at the beginning of the 16th century.

Philip II granted Móstoles independence from Toledo on December 6, 1565, with a royal cedula, making it a town (villa) under realengo (directly owned by the monarch).

Although it was only a tiny town, Micoles was famous for its municipal authorities. It called for a general rebellion against the French forces on May 2, 1808, immediately after the Dos de Mayo Uprising in the Spanish capital. The Mayor reportedly issued the following announcement (bando): “The homeland is in danger. Madrid is perishing, the victim of French perfidiousness. Spaniards, turn to save her.”.

After a slow and steady population growth during the first half of the 20th century, the municipality experienced a vast demographic boom in the 1960s.
