A city in North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany, Mülheim is officially called Mülheim an der Ruhr and described as “City on a River.” The town is between Duisburg, Essen, Oberhausen, and Ratingen in the Ruhr Area. Among its many companies are Aldi Süd Company, Harke Group, and Tengelmann Group, all involved in the food industry.
In 1808, Mülheim received its town charter, and 100 years later, its population exceeded 100,000, making it an official city. During the city’s 200th anniversary, it had approximately 170,000 residents and was considered one of Germany’s smaller cities.

There is a town called Mülheim an der Ruhr in the Ruhr Valley to the southwest of Essen.
Geology
Rhenish Massif’s foothills are characterized by distinctive rock formations of bare mountain slopes through which run coal-bearing layers that formed during the carboniferous period. There is a 50-meter-deep cut into this Mittelgebirge by the Ruhr. Due to this natural erosion, adits could be used to explore and extract these mineable black coal deposits. As one progressed northward, the coal-rich layers became deeper, so mines had to be built to extract the coal. On the other hand, the wide bayou (a dead arm of a river) of Styrum borough is characteristic of the Lower Rhine Plain.
