Peristeri is one of the suburbs of Athens and has a population of more than 140,000. It is the seventh-largest municipality in Greece.
History
Ancient site Leuconoe is believed to have been located in modern-day Peristeri.
Geography
Peristeri is located about 4km northwest of the center of Athens. It is between the Egaleo mountain in the northwest and the Cephissus river in the southeast. Peristeri has an area of 10 square kilometers (4 square miles). The built-up area of the city is similar in size to central Athens and neighboring suburbs.
Transportation
Motorway 1 (Athens-Thessaloniki) passes through the southeastern part of the municipality. It connects Athens and Korinthos as well as Patras. Athinon Avenue (Greek National Road 8 Athens-Korinthos-Patras) passes through the southwestern part of the municipality and connects Athens to Korinthos and Patras. Peristeri is served by three Athens metro stations on Line 2: Anthoupoli, Peristeri, and Agios Antonios. You can also reach the Kifissos Bus Terminal via the Athens Metro.
