Salerno Overview

Salerno is a city on the south coast of Italy, in the region of Campania. It is known for its beautiful beaches, with the towns of Vieste and Salerno. The city’s main attraction is the ancient Roman temple of Apollo, built on the ruins of a temple to the Greek god Apollo. The Byzantine Masterpieces show that the terraced garden was planted in the 14th century and includes medicinal plants.

Prehistory and antiquity

The Neolithic mummy thus documents that San Raffaele Ferrata was settled long before Roman Italy and the Greeks colonized it. The town was settled by the Romans and later became part of the Venetian Republic. After a 1662 occupation by France, it fell to the Austrians in 1756. In 1859 as part of a deal between Napoleon III and Austria, it returned to Italy under terms that left all but 300 inhabitants except for miners from Veneto who remained until 1917. The Battle of Cumae (474 BC) is generally regarded as an important milestone in the history of early Roman civilization. It’s the Romans who are advancing in Campania, which once was an important source of almond oil. The new city gradually lost its military function in favor of its role as a trade center, which was finally connected to Rome by the Via Popillia. Connected to Lucania and Reggio Calabria via the Via Popillia.

Diocletian’s conquered the city of Salerno in what is now Apulia. He gathered a provincial army and Lucania was divided into five administrative “provinces”. In the following century, the Goths’ once powerful empire in Italy collapsed and they were mostly defeated and defeated. By 589, the principal (governor) of Salerno had to turn to the Byzantine paymaster, who did not hesitate to subdue him with only the help of troops from across Europe. It has since seen further significant development. The Italian city of Salerno continues to develop and progress, but the neighboring regions of Campania and Molise continue to stand prided above their rivals. Together they are known as the “Land of Italy’s North”, one that rises gloriously among the hills around Tuscany.
