Sant Boi was believed to be created in pre-Roman times based on discovering archaeological remains dating to the Iberian colonies (VI-I BC) and Romans (I-V BC).

As with most surrounding lands, the Moors controlled the town between the 8th and 11th centuries until they were expelled from Iberia during the Reconquista. Because of a hillock that dominated the river and the valley, the Moors called it Alcalá, which means “castle.” The town’s current name comes from Saint Baudilus, also known as Boi or Baldiri in Catalonia.

The village gradually expanded to adjacent areas during the Middle Ages from the castle’s surroundings. The 16th century saw the construction of a baroque church. Several “masses” (typical Catalan agricultural country houses) were built nearby the river and fertile lands during the following centuries. In the late 19th century, Sant Boi had nearly 5,000 residents, and its agriculture dominated its economy.

Sant Boi flourished in the early 20th century with industries ranging from brick-making to metalworking. As a result of the end of the Spanish Civil War in 1939, many immigrants came from various parts of Spain. Villagers and small-town residents made up the majority of these new arrivals. Due to the regrowth of the Catalan industry in post-war Spain, they were searching for jobs and career opportunities in Barcelona.

Between 1940 and 1975, 65,000 people were living in the city. Construction of complete quarters for immigrants (Casablanca, Camps Blancs, and Cooperativa) characterizes this period. The town of Sant Boi has more than 80,000 inhabitants, well-established 

industries and service sectors, and excellent cultural and recreational facilities.
