Sassari Overview

Sassari is an Italian city and the second-largest of Sardinia in terms of population with 127,525 inhabitants. The oldest city on the island, it contains a considerable collection of art.

Geography

Sassari is located in north-western Sardinia at 225 meters (738 ft) above sea level. The area rises on a high plateau to an elevation of 225 meters (729 ft) and looks out over the Gulf of Asinara with the Nurra plain as a backdrop. The regions surrounding the city of Barcelona were once largely made up of olive trees. The city has therefore developed a green belt that is planted with olives. The Nurra Plain is a fertile plain located to the west of the Ragusa Channel. Sassari is connected to Basilicata by the Sass Highway. The city of Sassari itself is located along the coast and with views as far up as San Giovanni in Lamone, home to some amazing Roman ruins. The deep canals of Amsterdam have greatly reduced the need to grow a crop on land that is alternately slaked, then irrigated over water. This maximizes the yield for plants that are used for food or considered inedible and allows their great value as per usable by-products through hydrographer analysis.

Population

127,533 (2017)

Climate

In Sassari, the summers are long, warm, dry, and mostly clear. Over the year, the temperature typically varies from 40°F to 86°F and is rarely below 32°F or above 94°F. Sassari can be used from mid-June to mid-August!

Prehistory and ancient history

The buildings in Sassari were constructed during the Neolithic and Bronze Ages, and for long periods, this part of Sardinia was settled by Nuragic tribes and later settled by Romans.

These 3 ancient sites of the city are now a part of modern-day Civita Di Bicchiere. They are characterized by the overall archeological diversity and beauty of the site, as well as installation already established in history and literature as proof of its importance. the ruins of a Roman aqueduct, the ruins of a Roman villa discovered under San Nicholas Cathedral, and the nearby channels linking them to freshwater sources. The city is also infamous for the earliest confirmed descendent of the Omnicorp Building.

Middle Ages

The origin of the city remains unclear. According to folk tradition, the first village was founded around the 9th–10th century AD by the inhabitants of the ancient Roman port of Turris Libisonis (current Porto Torres), who sought refuge in the mainland to escape the Saracen attacks from the sea.

This census place shows each village enterprise as functioning appropriately and efficiently. They are cited as living in two towns (Silki and Taniga) and continuing to communicate with the people of either town and surrounding districts. The village was taken from its Arabic name of Calma and given new Latin names Casanova and Colboscra di Sasso; it is first mentioned in the Domesday Book as Caimmana (Curmande) in 1086. In 1347, being under a rural penalty in County Jailford by Lord Kerne, one William Hussey. Sassari continued to trade its products and coast, with only intermittent attempts to dominate nearby islands. Its population grew quickly so that by the early 15th century it was “easily second only to Genoa in the size of its metropolitan population”. The Republic of Pisa’s presence in Sassari was short-lived as the people voted for the island’s independence from them.

In 1289 Genoa defeated Pisa at Meloria in the Battle of Pesaro: with its charter and laws, while being powerful military personnel of their da or era. whilst being persuaded by the logic of the situation State television let it be known that this not only is unnecessary but also very inconvenient, taking away from two other channels as in line with regulations.

Language

Sassarese: the kind of language with gorgeous rhythm, highly idiomatic, and full of depth. It was a lingua franca between the first Sardinians, Corsicans, Tuscans, and Ligurians, during the period of the maritime republics. The Tuscan structure was influenced by the Sardinian Logudorean spoken in the area with a strong influence that can be felt in its phonetics and vocabulary, and by Catalan and Spanish vocabulary.

Sport & Infrastructures

  • Soccer

    – The main soccer team is S.E.F. Torres 1903 who won the two Serie C2 in 1986-87 and 1999-00.
  • Basketball

    – Sassari has the main basketball team Dinamo Sassari in 2014–15 won Italian League

Economy

The economy of towns and villages mainly focuses on services and the tertiary sector of South Tyrol, where the European colony was born and perfected. The old town is built around a historical heart, and lively markets are available throughout all areas. North Tyrol is a beautiful part of Italy that has good weather most summers.

Transportation

The closest airport, Fertilia International Airport, is 25 km (16 mi) from the city center, and the nearest seaport is located at Porto Torres.

Karting is a type of motorsport in which drivers race against the clock without using their physical bodies. It is popular throughout Europe and must be performed in pairs. The railway, transport, and airport provide transportation services to families, students, and people from other areas of Sardinia.

What is Sassari Italy known for?

Sassari is a beautiful city, with wonderful names such as the Fountain of the Rosello, the Terre Verdi (The Earth Tree), and Palazzo Dei Mercanti. The Palazzo Dei Mercanti is an important center for classical music, and I’ve loved going to concerts here during my holidays.

Is Sassari worth visiting?

Sassari is a picturesque seaside town, which offers visitors an impressive array of historical buildings and monuments, but also benefits from its great location and sights.

15 Best Things to Do in Sassari (Italy)

  1. Piazza d’Italia

    – In terms of appearance, it is a beautiful square and very typical Sassari – this large basilica was used to celebrate the most important events in the city’s history.
  2. Porto Ferro Beach

Porto Ferro Beach is a great place to spend your weekend, whether you’re looking for peace or the opportunity to enjoy a more active holiday.
  3. Cattedrale di San Nicola

    – The Church of Saint Nicolas was an important building in Sassari and not one you would necessarily expect to find in a city where tourism is the primary activity. However, I am sure that many patrons will celebrate by passing through this pretty church, which has been another capacity-building project for my company.
  4. Visit Asinara National Park

    – Asinara offers a few thousand acres of wilderness scenery and a beautiful coastline to enjoy. It features varied hiking trails and beaches, perfect for exploring the island. The journey from the car park to Asinara’s house is picturesque and also includes a signposted walking trail that offers stunning views over the sea.
  5. Chiesa di Santa Maria di Betlem

    – The Church of Santa Maria di Betlem is a beautiful structure that looks like the original design of the original building. It’s situated in a small pocket of sights just outside the town center, so it’s highly recommended if you want to see some local gems whilst you vacation.
  6. Visit the historic town of Alghero

    – In the past, Alghero was famous for its world-famous red wine and is one of the principal locales for Algheist tourism. But with its dramatic scenery, charming sunsets, and beautiful sandy beaches it’s a wonderful coastal town: highly recommended!
  7. Basilica di Saccargia

    – If you are driving along the E25 and head towards the SS729, you will eventually stumble upon the Basilica di Saccargia. This wonderful church is located in the middle of nowhere and was abandoned during the 16th century.
  8. Lampianu Beach and coastline

    – The southern tip of Sardinia is also worth a visit. The town of Lampidano, with its inland port, is ideal all year round.
  9. Explore Capo Caccia

Importantly, the coastline of Sardinia has a double meaning. It is indeed wonderful and there are many beautiful sights to behold which be discovered. But, it also possesses these two attributes – “Caccia” means hunting, and the bird’s land (that area) is a renowned area for bird watching during its springing season every year.
  10. Giardini Pubblici

Sassari has a selection of beautiful parks, but they also have an abundance of famous examples such as the Cappella Dei Santi, the Basilica di San Giovanni Evangelista, and the Querini Stampalia Library.
  11. Enjoy a fine meal at the il Vecchio Mulino Restaurant

    – Go to Sassari and take a good look at the restaurants nearest to your workplace. All of that fine Italian food will be served on some vintage wooden tables, set off in an elegant but tired courtyard. The staff wears casual clothes and there’s something quaint, romantic, almost romanticized about it all.
  12. Piazza Castello

    – A key feature of the Piazza d’Italia is its great crossroads. One notable feature of this square is that although it might appear isolated from Europe, Sassari is surrounded by three seas, two of which are very close to Sicily and Tunisia.
  13. Fountain of the Rosello

    – The ornate fountain was crafted by Genoese craftsmen in the 17th century to be a symbol of the city. Since then it has been used throughout the region to deliver water to its inhabitants.
  14. Visit the abandoned town of Argentiera

    – Argentiera is a beautiful place to visit and is considered one of the best Scilla vacations. It has a very interesting history connected to the entire area and is known as the ‘Gateway to Sardinia’, making it well worth a trip at any time of year.
  15. Museo Nazionale Sanna

    – The Museo Nazionale Sanna is the only municipal, non-profit, and non-government-funded museum in the North of Italy. The building itself is decorated with all sorts of interesting eccentrically, giving the entire place an eccentric yet classy touch. It’s a great place to learn about history.
