Send Gift Baskets to Satu Mare, Romania

Findings from scientific research show settlements in the Oaș area dating back to many Stone and Bronze Age periods. The local Dacian population still lives there after the impact of Roman settlers. Satu Mare has been a royal free city since the 13th century, but they changed hands multiple times in the 15th century. The Báthory family took ownership of the citadel in 1526. In 1562 the fort was besieged by Ottoman armies led by Pargalı İbrahim Pasha of Buda and Maleoci Pasha of Timișoara. The Habsburgs then surrounded it, leading Transylvanian fleeing troops to set it on fire. After Schwendi’s order, Baldigara’s plans for the new citadel were implemented. The fortress would be pentagonal and have five towers, just as the Italians would have it.
