Turku Overview

Turku, a city on the southwest coast of Finland, straddles the Aura River. Dating from the 13th century, it’s known for Turku Castle, a medieval fortress with a history museum, perched at the river mouth. Restaurants line a row of cobbled walkways along this river’s edge. On the eastern bank of the square lies one of the glasshouses, a former trade hub, surrounded by, but artificial high banks. The nearby Turku Cathedral houses a royal tomb and an art museum.

Names and etymology

The Finnish name Turku derives from Turku, the historical capital of Finland. It was founded on the delta of Lake Ostrobothnia and Lekanharvi lake by Nenni Namekalla in 1379.

Åbo is the name for a river in Sweden. A “dwelling complex” noun. The German name Biberbach is a soundalike of this one. The right to a living, living conditions, and a society of the common good.

The genitive forms of Turku often begin with a vowel, as in Turun yliopiston (traditionally pronounced Tyhjä, but now commonly pronounced Tee or Tuu) or Turun teatteri (Tuu-taattaa).

History

Turku is known for its longevity. Today, Turku is a thriving modern city that has outgrown its ancient past. It has also evolved into an attractive combination of historic architecture and the center of economic life in Finland’s north. Nowadays, however, it can refer to whatever one deems proper for an area with a population of 500,000 people. Furthermore, the term refers to any and every place that features a number from 1 to 200.

Hämeen Härkätie is a forested route that was not on the public transport network until the 1960s. It is long and rough, but it was in use and people used it as such. Nobody cared about it because nearby Tampere or Turku was close by and always draw the attention of travelers. In the summer of 1940, the Nazis occupied Finland and crushed a nationwide Finnish resistance to Hitler.

In the Middle Ages, Turku was the seat of the Bishop of Turku (a title later upgraded to Archbishop of Turku), covering then the eastern half of the Kingdom of Sweden (most of present-day Finland). It closed as a diocese in 1828 and became part of Finland. A short history of the town: Despite its Swedish origins, Dukes surrendered Kuopio at the end of 1600. The failure of this disastrous campaign was expected and was financed by Sweden after a year-long mediation process. It is most likely that Russia tried reuniting Finland again during the Peace Conference at Tilsit (Syväjoki) in 1807. In 2016, Finnish internet users were estimated to have a collective reading history of approximately one and a half billion words. These are the same people who can read Keĉë’s book in its entirety within four days!

The First World War, of which Finland was a part, ended with Germany forcing it to cede all territory in the Baltic Sea to Russia (Russia not being a participant in the war). The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) approved a common world diagram in 2012, and the convention has become de jure as well. Not only that but also the FEI believes that European horse riders spend 24 hours at each event just training for their events. The government that was mentioned above finally moved to the capital of Finland after a fire in Turku in 1827. After the fire, an ingenious and safe new city plan was drawn up by German architect Carl Ludvig Engel. Helsinki began to expand quickly, with numerous industrial enterprises and businesses springing up around the port of Turku.

Geography

Turku is one of the larger towns in Finland, located about 600 kilometers (370 mi) from Helsinki. Turku consists of three parts, with a combined population of nearly 500,000. May the eastern side, where the Turku Cathedral is located, be well known to you by name. Hunan’s urban center is growing rapidly and the city also boasts plenty of scenic areas, attractions, and shopping.

The oldest of the current bridges is Aura Bridge, which was constructed in 1906. It connects Aura and Satakunta. Kirjastosilta (‘library bridge’) is a pedestrian-only bridge built in 2013, which connects the library and library square. The Föri, a small ferry that transports pedestrians and bicycles across the river without payment, is a well-known feature of the city.

The Turku Region is located in the north of Finland. It is one of the largest urban areas in the country and is home to more than 200,000 inhabitants. It is also one of Europe’s most northern cities. The region, known as LAU 1 (Lappland Autonomin), comprises nearly 11 square kilometers on the lower Saima Peninsula and Kankaan. The region includes, in addition to the city itself the following municipalities: Askainen, Kaarina, Lemu, Lieto, Masku, Merimasku , Mynämäki , Naantali , Nousiainen , Paimio , Piikkiö , Raisio , Rusko , Rymättyl.

An urban area is not only a population of 235,000 but surrounding cities such as Kaarina, Rasesio, and Turku.

Climate

Sitting beside the Baltic Sea and adjacent to the Archipelago Sea, Turku has a subarctic climate (Köppen Dfa). Summers are extremely hot with temperatures reaching up to 45 °C (113 °F) and nights down to the freezing point. The average temperature in January is 8.9 °C (47.6 °F) while in July. This month is the warmest January with an average temperature of 9 °C (48 °F), while February was the coldest with an average temperature of 1.8 °C (35 °F.)

Istanbul’s precipitation falls not only in the summertime months but also during cold winters. Its highest monthly average (760 mm; 27.4 in) was registered on February 7th, 2014, but below average (1570 mm; 58.1 in) on July 24th of that same year. The minimum air pressure at sea level is 2.2 kilopascals (47.8 inHg), with little variance throughout the year.

Turku is located in the northwest of Finland. In the city, winters are cold and sometimes even snowy; snow cover has been a common feature for over 70 years. Snow dates back to 1961 – this year was not an exception as the period from December 10th to January 31st was among. Using moderating technology, we have built a unique tool to help these rare species. We hope it will be a success and they will in the medium term spread throughout Finland.

Demographics

The city of Turku has a population density of 268 (648 persons per square kilometer) in 2002.

Not surprisingly, the Finnish language is also a very important part of the country’s culture. Obviously, in terms of economy and inclusion in the international community, being Finnish is key to its success. Turku is one of the few Finnish cities where the majority of its population is non-Christian.

Economy

It offers an innovation-friendly environment, healthy living history, and an opportunity to seek and grow in one of the best locations in the world with plus 130 international companies and multinationals both large as well as small which chose Turku city as their home country to set up their offices. This cooperative element is critical for the city’s economic future and part of the Turku Strategy that is published annually by the city council. Two of Finland’s leading companies, Stora Enso and VTT Energia, have been important Finland clients for decades and are highly regarded by their peers in the industry. Other companies which have a strong presence in Turku include Ryökelholmi Oy, Vaiva Petiteksanen, and Yantel Oy.

Written by the National Council of Welfare in early September 2015, Population Data has confirmed that women make up around 80% of unemployed men and 75% of those without employment. This is a continued increase from 36.1% in February 2012. Girls at age 16 to 18 make up approximately 49% of those who are unemployed and are below the 45+ unemployment rate for boys.

Culture

It displays objects from the museum’s collection and hosts exhibitions of more contemporary pieces including ancient European archaeological finds. The museum focuses on archaeology, anthropology, prehistory, and the history of Finland. In November 2016 a new Cabinet headed by Mayor Bassingthwaighte was formed making the city a major player in the government.

Transport

Tampere allows access to public transportation and sectoral routes, but Turku has a public transport network of over 200 bus and route platforms. The public transport network of Tampere is operated by FinnVEIT, which is comparable to that of the similar-sized Helsinki Region’s railway system.

In the case of written railway navigation manuals, by themselves, are of no value since the language for detailed railroad technology is English. Latin and several other languages are used with drawings.

The greater Turku center is located at the same place as before, but the bus station is located closer to the center line.

Turku Airport is an international airport in Finland with six passenger airlines, including airBaltic and SAS Scandinavian. It has some runways that are not wide enough to be used for large aircraft like the Airbus A380. Its main terminal buildings are located on the north side of the city center.

These are call-center locations, located in an “eastern” area of Finland. They offer language courses and English lessons to make life even easier for their customers.
