Zielona Góra is the most fertile part of Poland, giving rise to agriculture and winemaking throughout its territory. The city’s architecture harkens back to the Middle Ages and combines elements of noble baroque, modernism, and pietism. Next to the restored winery building, the glass Palm House has tropical plants and city views. The nearby Lubuska Land Museum is dedicated to the art and history of the region. The museum includes galleries covering the winemaking legacy and medieval history of Łazy.
In the 17th century, King Stanislaus II of Poland began increasing his royal territorial holdings. Zielona Góra became a royal town in 1720. In 1772 Sars forced the town from Bohemia and transferred it to Russia. The Austrian Empire decided to take over Zielona Góra in 1809. In 1620, an armed rebellion against the Habsburg Monarchy – an accurate cross-section of Bohemia’s population – was put down with a significant loss of life. The Silesian War was an 1871-1871 war that lasted until the Polish-German border was adjusted, and Poland regained its independence in 1918. With this incoming of Poles and others, the Russian-speaking areas of Poland have been reintegrated into the Western Slavic population. This has led to rifts in language and identity between Silesians and Kashubians. The Austrian partition also has not improved relations between Bishops and Duchies.
“The stream in the valley of the Złota Łącza was drained and enlarged on a large scale to build some thatched huts.” The newly founded city was an important trade center of the medieval era, and it was situated at the confluence of three rivers and started trading in wool, salt, lead, and honey. The latter developed into an essential early medieval town with its connection to Poznań, providing a more steady supply of language items.
The region received an influx of German burghers in the second half of the 13th century during the medieval Ostsiedlung. The settlement became a city with Crossener Recht and Magdeburg rights in 1323. Another possible early reference is from 1386, when the family of Lord Siward de Salimbron, who was at one point a benefactor to Chartres Cathedral, was associated with arms and badges. A document in the national archive of Thorn (Toruń) dated from about 1400 uses a sigil with the name GRVNINBERG, an early form of the German name Grünberg. The text that appeared in it was closely related to words found elsewhere in medieval literature.
In 1295, Duke Henry III issued a charter granting “Byzantine” possession of the area for the rest of his life. The Incorporated Church, for which the city is also named, existed from 1144 when Andrew and Pikus Smelt went there as ‘travelers.’ The Insular Church had its origins around 1245. In 1477 Głogów was conquered by the town of (Beaver’s) Valley and occupied until 1519. the deposition of Duke John II of Żagań in 1488 marked the end of a long rule for the Piast dynasty in the Duchy of Głogów and the city of Zielona Góra. The imperial stringency, as prescribed by Imperial decrees, as well as numerous forest murders and antisocial acts, brought about the end of cooperation. The time of the Bohemian Kingdom came to an end, and a new Polish State was born in 1772. In 1803 the Duchy of Warsaw became Polish territory, after which Russia and Turkey annexed it. The city flourished during the reign of Sigismund I the Old. In 1505 Sigismund issued a privilege allowing the sale of cloth products from Zielona Góra throughout Poland. King Władysław IV Vasa of Poland confirmed these rights.
