Located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in Eastern France, Bourg-en-Bresse is the prefecture of the Ain department. Bresse is the capital of the ancient province of Bresse, located 70 km northeast of Lyon. There were 41,248 residents in the commune in 2018.

Located southeast of Bourg-en-Bresse’s center, this is the old hospital of the town. Despite being over 200 years old, the pharmacy inside has mostly stayed the same since 1782.

Église Notre-Dame

The church was built in the 1500s with brilliant white stone, just as the new Renaissance style replaced the Flamboyant Gothic style. Hence, both designs are fused since the apse and nave are Gothic, while the western facade and dome tower are Renaissance.

Porte des Jacobins

Located at the corner of Rue Jules Migonney and Rue de la République, it is a historical relic with an intriguing story. An arch from the Porte des Jacobins is the only remnant of a 15th-century convent destroyed during the Revolution.

Bresse Countryside

Bourge-en-Bresse has various distinctive features, such as its food, dialect, architecture, and traditions. Half-timbered Bresse farmhouses, for instance, will have corn ears hanging from their porches.

With its twisted cobbled streets and 80 historical monuments, Pérouges is only a small town. In most cases, the houses are stone cottages or half-timbered houses with wisteria climbing the walls.
