Send Gift Baskets to Cergy-Pontoise, France

Amid the fast growth of Paris and its suburbs in the 1960s, several new cities were created around Paris to control and balance the situation.

It was decided to choose Pontoise’s surroundings to the north. It was planned to integrate the old city into a much larger unit centered on Cergy, which was just a village at the time. There were to be several stages to the establishment of the new city starting in 1965:

• In 1969, the EPA (Établissement public d’aménagement) was established as a publicly owned entity.
• The Syndicat communautaire d’aménagement (SCA) was founded in 1971.
• Cergy-Ponttoise was officially created on August 11, 1972, combining fifteen communes (the eleven current ones, Boisemont, Boissy-l’Aillerie, Méry-sur-Oise, and Pierrelaye).
• Ricard’s law amended new cities in 1983.
• In 1984, SCA is replaced by the Syndicat d’agglomération nouvelle (SAN), four communes leave the organization (the four cited above).
• As the new city was completed on December 31, 2002, the EPA’s mission ended and was dissolved.
• The SAN was transformed into a municipality on January 1, 2004.
• Boisemont became the 12th commune of Cergy-Pontoise in 2004.
