In north-central France, Levallois-Perret is a commune in the Hauts-de-Seine department and the Île-de-France region. It is located in the French capital’s northwestern suburbs and is around six kilometers from the center.
Champerret (founded by landowner Jean-Jacques Perret in 1822) and Village Levallois (founded by developer Nicolas-Eugène Levallois in 1845) are two housing developments that give Levallois-Perret its name.
Before the French Revolution, there were two villages in the area now occupied by Levallois-Perret: Villiers and Courcelles (later called La Planchette). They now give their names to two Métro stations in Paris. The southwestern part of Levallois-Perret used to be part of the commune of Clichy during the French Revolution.
In 1822, Jean-Jacques Perret began developing several housing developments in the northeast of Neuilly-sur-Seine, a place which is now known as Champerret (“champ Perret”: “Perret field”) and would later be given the name of a Paris metro station. Towards the end of 1845, Nicolas-Eugène Levallois started building housing for André Noël, who owned land near La Planchette (in the commune of Clichy). Village Levallois soon became the name of the land developed by Levallois.
Villagers requested the area be incorporated into a commune in the 1860s when it had become a single built-up area.

In the end, the requests were granted, and the commune of Levallois-Perret was eventually created on 30 June 1866 by combining that part of Neuilly-sur-Seine occupied by Champerret with that part of Clichy on which Village Levallois stood.
