Puces de Montreuil

Every Saturday and Monday, you can find one of the city’s scruffiest but most beloved flea markets on Avenue du Professeur André Lemierre. Almost everything on sale is second-hand, so if you love bric-a-brac, vintage clothes, or anything retro, check out these stands.

Château de Vincennes

Standing 52 meters high, this castle dominates the district to the south. Before Versailles, the keep was the tallest fortified building in Europe when it was completed in the 1300s.

Murs à Pêches

A third of Montreuil’s area was dotted with orchards and patches that supplied fresh fruit to Paris from 1600 to 1900. Peaches, cherries, and strawberries were also cultivated on these plantations.

Bois de Vincennes

This park just south of Montreuil might shock you with its size. In the middle of the 19th century, Napoleon III landscaped it like the Bois de Boulogne on the west side of Paris.

Parc Floral de Paris

Located on the northern edge of the Bois de Vincennes, this park is one of the city’s four botanical gardens. As the 1964 Tokyo Olympics coincided with the Parc Floral’s creation, the park has a loose Japanese theme.

Musée de l’Histoire de l’Immigration

Visit the Palais de la Porte Dorée on the fringes of the Bois de Vincennes, regardless of whether you enter the museum. An art deco palace built for the 1931 Colonial Exposition is an official “monument historique”.

La Montreuilloise Brewery

This new brewery was established in 2014 and is part of France’s craft beer revolution. In this brewery, besides the Murs à Pêches, organic and environmentally-friendly methods are used to make blonde, brown, and amber beers and seasonal specialties.

Coulée Verte René-Dumont

This innovative urban project opened in 1993 is only a ten-minute walk from Montreuil’s Robespierre Métro station. As well as being named Promenade Plantée, this park follows the course of the old Vincennes Railway, traversing the same old viaducts and transforming them with trees, bushes, sculptures, and flowerbeds.

Père Lachaise Cemetery

Just west of Montreuil in the 20th Arrondissement, this cemetery is the final resting place of many world-changing figures. You can download a plot map from the cemetery or pick one up at a local store.

Palais Garnier

The world’s most famous opera house can be reached via Métro Line 3. Built during Napoleon III’s rule in the 19th century, the Palais Garnier was characterized by a lavish eclectic style.
