Saint-Brieuc Cathedral

It is impossible to call the town’s cathedral “decorative” from the outside – it has fortress-like granite towers with only arrow loops for openings. Since there are no ramparts in Saint-Brieuc, the building was designed to withstand sieges, so it looks brutal. It was the bishop’s keep in the 13th century.

Old Saint-Brieuc

Near the cathedral, east and north of the town are the prettiest parts, with corbelled wooden houses. Saint-Brieuc’s covered market is on the Place du Martray, a picturesque square with stone and timber-framed buildings.

Musée d’Art et d’Histoire

You can explore this museum for an hour to learn more about Côtes-d’Armor’s culture and history. Although most of what you’ll see was collected later in the 1800s, the attraction began after the seizures during the Revolution.

Tour de Cesson

This forest-covered rock jumps 70 meters into the water on the right side of the Gout Estuary. During medieval times, this was where pirates and invaders defended Saint-Brieuc’s sea entrance.

Port du Légué

The port of Saint-Brieuc is located beneath the tower, on the banks of the Gouët as it reaches the English Channel. This fifth-largest port in Brittany has a quaint, relaxed atmosphere, with quayside paths and abundant woodland on the slopes above.

Les Chaos du Gouët

Take a memorable walk inland to the lagoon-side Plaintel. A 10.5-kilometer trail tracing the riverbanks, 15 minutes from Saint-Brieuc, passes thousands of granite boulders deposited by the Gouut.

Zooparc de Trégomeur

This zoo offers a fun day out for kids with an Asian theme and animals housed in enclosures similar to their natural habitats. A microclimate that nourishes tropical vegetation nourishes the park in a lush valley.

Villa Rohannec’h

Wandering through the grounds of this splendid mansion owned by Saint-Brieuc is a great way to get to the Port du Légué. When the villa Rohannec’h was built at the start of the 20th century, it was the home of local shipowner Viscount Le Gualès de Mézaubran.

Erquy

A charming seaside resort, Erquy features pink sandstone cottages along a large sheltered bay. The largest fishing fleet in the Côtes-d’Armor is based in Erquy, where scallops are trawled between October and April.
