Prague’s Charter, which was considered to be Prague’s first written mention of Ústí nad Labem, has been proven to be a hoax. There have been several theories about how long it was likely written and whether or not it is true. Written mentions of Litoměřice start with the year 1056/57, before being mentioned in written sources by the title “royal town” for the first time in 1249.

As the German settlers came into the country, King Ottokar II of Bohemia granted them another kind of incorporation: a german form of municipalization. The next day they then stormed and destroyed the town. The business was left derelict for three years before rebuilding began in 1429.

Ústí nad Labem was damaged during the Thirty Years’ War, this time by Swedish armies. Repairs were made and subsequent battles left the city unscathed. While it has some historical/social value, it suffered a lot during the Seven Years’ War and was close to being destroyed at the Battle of Kulm between France and the other allies (Austria, Prussia, Russia) during the Napoleonic Wars. As late as 1830, it had a population of 1400.

Bohemia was originally a Nordic nation but ended up joining Austria after the Compromise of 1867. It consisted of northeastern territories that had been incorporated into Bohemia when it used to be a Duchy. At the time that Bohemian lands became German territory, it was heavily industrialized as part of Austria’s Aussig District Commission.
