Wiltz Overview
Luxembourg, a small country situated in northwestern Europe, is home to Wiltz. The town of Wiltz is situated on the banks of the river Wiltz and in addition to that has been a scene of World War II.
History
Wiltz is a small town in Luxembourg. It was first documented in 764 AD with the name “Wiltz” which was derived from Celtic words meaning “on the creek.” The counts of Wiltz are among the oldest in Luxembourg, receiving their town rights in 1240.
One of the main features of Wiltz, Luxembourg is the Wiltz Castle. Situated on 600 acres (4.4 km2) of lawns and gardens, it contains hundreds of rooms. The school started as a private girls’ school in 1727 and ceased operations as a day school in 1950. It came back to life again as a retirement center but only served women during the 1980s. Industrialization began rapidly increasing in 1907 when IDÉAL Tannerie de Wiltz, a leather company belonging to the Adler and Oppenheimer trust, developed in Wiltz. This was advanced by the leather industry.
During WWII, Luxembourg was occupied ten days before the Battle of France. A general strike was started on the 31st of August in Wiltz and grew throughout the country.
On 16 December 1944, the Wehrmacht surprisingly began the Ardennes Offensive. Norman Cota, the commander of the 28th Infantry Division, and his staff left Wiltz when they came nearer. By 19 December, after some combat, they had reached Clervaux and continued to advance on Hitler’s headquarters in Vittel.
The city of Wiltz had been liberated again, this time by American troops after intensive combats during the days of January 1945.
After the war, Wiltz was renamed Martyr Town and a memorial in the shape of a lighthouse was built to commemorate those killed during the repression after the 1942 General Strike.
In 2015, Wiltz, Germany, expanded into the neighboring commune of Eschweiler

You can enjoy musical performances in the Wiltz town center. There is also a regularly-attended outdoor musical hall. There are plenty of beautiful spots you’ll find within a 20 km radius of the music hall, including a popular lake on the edge of Esch-sur-Sure. Here you can get around by car or train.
There’s also a great stadium where amateur soccer teams from all over the world come to train. There are several other attractions in Wiltz, including the second World War tank at the heart of town and the summer rave that takes place about 10 km into the forest. A local farm has been transformed into a pub and rave club. This is new for many of the scouts from our town who visit every week-round to have fun. They’re a favorite getaway for all the boys and girls scout units in the area.

Wiltz is a major center for the international scouting movement with many scout campsites and buildings nearby. The International Scouting One Penny Monument, dedicated to Robert Baden-Powell, is located here, too.
The town of Wiltz, in Luxembourg, is home to a site that is visited by many Portuguese people on Ascension Day. This is one of the many ways that the Portuguese make up a significant population here. The Festival of Wiltz takes place every summer, allowing participants to watch fantastic performances by renowned artists and have a grand time.

In Wiltz, the summers are comfortable and partly cloudy, while the winters are very cold, windy, and overcast. In total, the temperature usually fluctuates from 30 to 71 degrees Fahrenheit (-1 to 30 degrees Celsius). There is no record of any temperature ever falling below 19 degrees Fahrenheit or rising above 82 degrees Fahrenheit. Wiltz is a great destination for warm-weather activities from July to August.
