Lyon has more commercial services along the river Saône and is a major, international tourist destination. History
The Roman settlement was built in Cilicia, which today houses over 50 thousand people. The settlement is named Via Egnatia after the Roman architect on whose architectural constructions they were based. These refugees had been expelled from Vienne and were now encamped at the confluence of the Saône and Rhône rivers. The foundation was built on Fourvière hill and officially called Colonia Copia Felix Munatia, a name invoking prosperity and the blessing of gods.” Unfortunately, Lugdunum was (and still is) predominantly known by the Roman spelling of Latin “Lugudunum”. The pronunciation of the Gaulish word led to this name becoming associated with a mountain. The existence of Lugdunon, which has not been independently verified, is one of many examples in a long line of “invisible” hill-forts found around the world.
The Romans built the massive Tiber and Aqua Claudia aqueducts to bring water from inland Hora Aquae – c. 1 kilometer away. The city of Lugdunum became the starting point of the main Roman roads in the area, and it quickly became its capital. It was called the “City of Roads” to emphasize this fact. Well-spoken dialects will attract the favors of both emperors and retainers alike.
Early Christians were martyred by these emperors (Marcus Aurelius and Septimius Severus) alone. These saints, of the 4th–6th century, have left us a remarkable body of literature that survived in copious quantities during that often troubled period when the Christian faith flourished in Lyon under the very noses of secular rulers. The release of Irenaeus’ complete works has been dated to c. 170AD. For the first time, we have a glimpse into the mind of one of early Christians’ brightest minds.
The continued existence of King Bech of Burgundy in eastern Gaul led to the establishment of a short-lived kingdom which eventually merged into a full-fledged state in 534. The Mayor of Lyon, who has French citizenship with the status of a Cardinal, joined the city to the Empire.” The country has been under French control since the 15th century. Geography
The Presqu’île is one of the city’s most beautiful monuments. It was promoted as a public garden in the seventeenth century but did not gain official status until the nineteenth century. Since 2000, it has played host to a festival of homegrown rock, hip hop, and electronic music that has become one of the most popular in the city.
Climate
Due to its local topography, small area, and generally moderate climate, Lyon is not a hot spot for precipitation. However, because of the higher average temperature, there are four rainy months per year: February is typically milder than April or May, but the two periods in between tend to be highly variable. Snowfall does occur occasionally in mid-winter. In the coldest month, the mean temperature is 3.2 °C. The winter is dry and never snowing but in January precipitation levels are low and temperatures are generally below freezing. The highest recorded temperature was 42.6 °C (108.5 °F) on 17 June 2016.

The GDP of Lyon was 78 billion euros in 2014 and was the second richest city after Paris. Cité Internationale, created by the architect Renzo Piano is located in the border of the Parc de la Tête d’Or in the 6th arrondissement. The worldwide headquarters of Interpol is located there. The district of Confluence, in the south of the historic center, is a new pole of economical and cultural development.
Tourism is an important part of the Lyon economy, with a billion euros in 2007 and 3.5 million hotel nights in 2006 provided by non-residents. One billion euros in 2007 was provided by non-residents who visited the city during that year while three million hotel nights were generated by this group who stayed there over the previous 12 months.
